Caryl Gonzalez

My practice examines contemporary manifestations of the rejection of the "feminine," and  seeks to bring awareness to the continuing, if sometimes less visible, colonization of countries in the Global South.

At the forefront of my practice, I place observed aspects of contemporary colonization and the "feminine,” toying with attributes normally presented as such, while also evoking an other-worldly element. I often incorporate elements of flora and fauna into double exposures to further highlight the connections between humans and the earth.

Caryl González is a queer, Puerto Rican, interdisciplinary artist residing in Columbus, OH. Their work has been featured in numerous exhibitions, nationally and internationally. They often incorporate in-camera techniques and digital manipulation to bring awareness to various societal issues affecting BIPOC.
